Three very important phrases from my New York Times article are. "He saw the killing as a wildly overzealous reaction." tactical assault groups. Peace Officer. I would define this first phase as a reaction from a man who's son in law was just kill and he believes that his death shouldn't have occurred. The second phrase has to do with a group of trained individuals that go into dangerous situations to accomplish a goal of some kind. The phrase Peace Officer is talking about a police officer or some individual who works to keep peace and stop anarchy.

Definitions
It's very important for author to use definitions when trying to make a point to an audience. Definitions allow the audience to better understand and help get the exact point across that the author is trying to make. An example of this is an article given by the New York Times that talks about modern law enforcement and how it is becoming "militarized". http://www.nytimes.com/2015/09/16/movies/review-peace-officer-explores-military-style-raids-by-law-enforcement.html?_r=0 This article defines what they are talking about when they say "militarized". The larger social picture that this article put across is that modern police are become more of a military then peace keepers and how people think that this needs to change.

In this blog I'm going to talk about five more rhetorical tools. The first tool is the process of eye tracking. This is a tool that advertisers use that shows what about a picture catches the eye and what the eye spends the most time on. Another tool is visual anchoring. This is the thing in a picture that you come back to time after time and keeps your attention. The next tools are explicit and implicit advertising. Explicit advertising is when the message is very clear and is obvious to the audience. Implicit is when the message in the advertising is hidden and takes more thought to figure out.

Compare and Contrast blogs
I am compared my blog with Gages blog and we both have very similar blogs. The design and format of the blogs are the same and the blogs themselves are also very similar. The only real differences that I found in out blogs is the content in the blog.

The tool of comparing and contrasting is something that we use every single day. We compare and contrast pretty much everything from pictures to who we will vote for as our next president. Comparing and contrasting is simply the looking at the advantages and disadvantages of something and putting those advantages and disadvantages to something else. An example of this could be trying to decdide what car to drive. To decide this you would put the good and the bad things up against the good and the bad things up against the other car.
When you use this with visuals you want to use a basis for comparison. When you are looking at two different pictures you can use this basis for comparison by finding what the two things have in comon then comparing them together. This is a very helpful tool because it helps you when you are writing or if you are just using comparing and contrasting in everyday life.
