A narrative is simply a story in chronological order. We have narratives all around us, any story told by someone is a narrative. For native Americans narratives where told by one person around a camp fire at night. We all tell narratives in our day to day lives; short, long, important, interesting and many other things. We have all read narratives and narratives are every where.
Narratives can have several different rhetorical tools in them. The fist example is a flash back. When telling a story it can help to give your audience a flash back to help them understand or prove a point you are trying to make in your story. Another tool is foreshadowing. This is the opposite of a flash back, this is showing something that can or will happen in the future. These are just a few examples of rhetorical tools that can help you while writing your narrative.
